AU Small Finance Bank Collaborates with CCSE & Fiinovation CSR Consultant to Spearhead Road Safety Awareness Project in Northern India
Road safety has emerged as a pressing concern affecting individuals across all modes of transportation globally. Regardless of whether one is driving, cycling, walking, or crossing the street, the risk of injury or fatality due to road traffic accidents is a stark reality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 1.24 million people lose their lives annually in road accidents, with an additional 20 to 50 million sustaining non-fatal injuries. These alarming statistics underline the urgent need for coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to address road safety on a global scale.
In India, road accidents claim over one lakh lives each year, making it a leading cause of fatalities. Contributing factors include the surge in the number of vehicles, lack of awareness, poor driving skills, and widespread traffic rule violations. Insufficient infrastructure and ineffective enforcement mechanisms further exacerbate the issue, necessitating a comprehensive approach to mitigate accidents.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, AU Small Finance Bank, a prominent financial institution in India, has joined forces with the Centre for CSR & Sustainability Excellence (CCSE), the not-for-profit implementation arm of Fiinovation CSR Consultancy. This collaboration aims to implement a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project focused on road safety awareness in key cities such as Meerut, Agra, Kanpur, and Lucknow.
The initiative is being executed at the grassroots level by Apna Theater Sansthan, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting self-reliance and empowering marginalized communities. The project's objectives encompass increasing education on road safety, raising awareness about road safety requirements, promoting safe practices in schools and colleges, and sensitizing road users through campaigns, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities, mascots, and street shows.
Dr. Soumitro Chakraborty, CEO of Fiinovation CSR Consultancy and Chairman of CCSE, emphasizes the need for a collaborative approach to address road safety issues. By partnering with AU Small Finance Bank, Dr. Chakraborty aims to contribute technical expertise and support to the initiative, anticipating positive societal impacts from this crucial endeavor.
Mr. Uttam Tibrewal, Executive Director of AU Small Finance Bank, underscores the bank's commitment to sustainable development through this partnership. He states, "Road safety is a critical issue, causing significant physical, emotional, and economic impacts. Our collaboration with CCSE is a small step toward raising awareness about this preventable threat. By adopting road safety practices, individuals can contribute to building a safer and sustainable future for all."
The project by AU Small Finance Bank, in collaboration with CCSE, represents a pivotal stride in fostering a safer and more sustainable future. Ongoing activities are expected to significantly impact road safety awareness and reduce injuries in the targeted cities. With continued support from all stakeholders, this initiative aims to make roads safer and prevent deaths and injuries caused by road accidents.
